The Humane Society of the United States Selects TurnerPatterson as New Marketing Agency

Los Angeles, CA - Feb 15, 2006 The Humane Society of the United States, the nation’s largest animal protection organization headquartered in Washington, has selected TurnerPatterson as its marketing agency of record to launch its national campaign against dog fighting in the United States. Outlawed by all 50 states, dog fighting is a crisis of growing concern, often resulting in violent attacks of children and adults by abused dogs.

“We are pleased to work with The HSUS to increase awareness of this issue in America,” said Debra Turner, chairman & CEO TurnerPatterson. “It has been estimated that today there are more than 250,000 fighting dogs in the country and every year 40,000 dog fighters pit their animals against one another. Losing dogs are often mutilated, starved to death, burned alive and/or abandoned. By creating a focused awareness campaign we hope to put an end to this abuse and lower the incidences of attack.”

"Despite being illegal nationwide, dog fighting occurs in all corners of our country, causing horrible suffering to thousands of animals and bringing needless violence into our communities," said Wayne Pacelle, president and CEO of The Humane Society of the United States. "The city of Chicago, for example, has reportedly more than 60,000 pits bulls, and many of them are highly aggressive and a danger to other animals and to people. They are victims themselves, transformed by people into fighting animals and almost sure to end up mauled and dead themselves."

"Although The HSUS has been successful in working with law enforcement on this important issue, more is needed to combat dog fighting at its roots. The Humane Society of the United States is thrilled to be working with TurnerPatterson so that we can jointly implement an effective marketing campaign that brings individuals and communities together to stop this violent activity wherever it occurs," added Pacelle.

“We will focus the initial marketing efforts in Chicago with a national roll out scheduled for later this year” stated Debra Turner.
